Sailing club blown away by sponsorship
Fri, Oct 5th 2007, 14:30
Redrow have put the wind back in the sails of a Westbury boating club with a £400 donation for new equipment.
The West Wiltshire Youth Sailing Association (WWYSA) will use the money to buy two much-needed new sails for their Topper fleet, which are single-handed dinghies used by some of the younger members of the club.
Helen Martin, Rear Commodore at the WWYSA, said: “We’re very grateful to Redrow for their generous donation.
“The sails needed replacing because all our equipment is extremely well-used. We are a Royal Yachting Association training centre teaching around 200 children a year, which includes are own members and groups from local schools, and the Topper is mainly used by children aged between eight and 12-years-old to practice in and for competitions.
“The houses at the new Redrow development overlook the lake we practice on so residents will be able to see look out of their windows and see the children sailing.”
The association, which has just celebrated its 40th anniversary, is run by volunteers. They fund the purchase of all their equipment through their own fundraising activities and generous offers of sponsorship from companies like Redrow, the local council and lottery funding.
Sandra Hughes, sales manager for Redrow Homes (South West), said: “Redrow is always looking for new ways to get involved in the communities in which we build. We are proud to be associated with the WWYSA and wish them every success.
“Our Lakelands Edge venture is situated very close to this picturesque lake and is appealing to homebuyers who want to live in a very natural setting but close enough to local transport networks.”
Lakelands Edge is a development of two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom homes set within delightful Wiltshire countryside, with current prices from £207,000 for a three-bedroom Lambourne townhouse with en-suite to master bedroom.
All the amenities of Westbury town centre are close at hand, whilst the historic city of Bath is only about 12 miles away.
