Home hunter scores dream prize

A house hunter scored his dream prize when he tackled a Redrow competition to win a sought-after pair of World Cup tickets.
Rugby fan Craig Anderson, 36, is in the process of buying a new home with award-winning house builder Redrow at the Cwm Calon venture in Ystrad Mynach with his partner Samantha Morgan, 37.
While meeting with his Redrow sales advisors, he entered a free prize draw, to win a sought-after pair of tickets to see Wales versus Australia at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium in the Rugby World Cup and, much to his amazement, he won.
Craig, from Caerphilly, said: “I entered the competition and didn’t really think too much more about it until I received a phone call to say that the tickets were mine. I was really chuffed because I know how hard it is to get tickets even though I’ve been fortunate enough to go to some of the games in the past.”
He took Samantha with him and although the result wasn’t what they had hoped for, the couple said they enjoyed the experience.
Craig and Samantha are buying their first home together so they have more space for them and their three daughters from previous relationships.
Craig said: “Our circumstances have changed and we need a bigger house. We’d like a four-bedroom Teign house. It’s three storeys and fairly spacious so it will be ideal when all the girls are there.
“The price of the house is very appealing for its size. We decided to use the Mastermove service to sell our old house because Redrow manage the sale and pay the agent’s fees. It’s early days but we’ve set our hearts on this new house. We’ve been back and forth and looked at it so many times.”
Debby Pavitt, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (South Wales), said: “We were delighted when Craig won the tickets, especially because he’s such a big rugby fan.
“We hope Craig, Samantha and their three children will be very happy at Cwm Calon. Redrow is creating an urban village environment so it will be great for families with all the amenities of Ystrad Mynach and Caerphilly close by.
“The Mastermove service will take all the hassle out of selling their existing property in a bid to speed up a move to their dream home.”
Mastermove allows customers to ‘hold’ a Redrow home for up to four weeks whilst a carefully chosen local estate agent manages the sale of their existing property, leaving them free to concentrate on moving. When the purchase is complete, Redrow not only refunds the Mastermove registration fee, but will also pay up to £2,000 of the agent’s fees.
For those selling a property with three or more bedrooms that now requires a Home Information Pack, Redrow offers an enhanced Mastermove service that includes preparation and payment for the pack.
The Cwm Calon development is being built on the site of the former Penallta Colliery, where Groundwork Caerphilly has already created a neighbouring community park of some 180 hectares. It has good road and rail links for the 14-mile journey south to Cardiff.
It is part of a wider regeneration of the site, which will eventually also see the refurbishment of the colliery’s power hall, winding towers, ancillary buildings and two lakes.
Current availability includes one-bedroom apartments from just £105,995, three-bedroom houses from £179,995, a choice of four-bedroom terraced, semi and detached houses from £190,995 to £281,995 and a five-bedroom detached home at £319,995.
