The apartments – one of which is brand new and the other in a renovated building – are in the spotlight at Redrow’s opulent St Edward’s Park development in Cheddleton, near Leek.
The two-bedroom Miss Saigon-themed home uses a mix of colours featured in key scenes and worn by characters, including cream, navy, khaki green and red.
Designers have gone to the ‘sun and moon’ and back to create the theme, which in the lounge includes a base colour of cream to contrast with the warm red Japanese sofa and oriental fresh khaki green cushions, while glitzy white and cream cushions give the room a more glamorous feel. The oriental display is completed with distressed black furniture and footstools.
The first of the two bedrooms uses prominent wallpaper adorned with navy-coloured flowers and matching roman blinds. The striking centre piece is a real bamboo bed, lit from underneath, with a spray of bamboo shoots behind it. The bed is finished with black and cream bed linen and khaki green bamboo design cushions.
‘The heat is on’ in the second bedroom, themed as a Vietnamese club which American soldiers visit. A black velvet chaise lounge and a red oriental trunk compliment the feature wall which depicts the show’s famous helicopter scene, while the roman blinds are made up of Vietnamese and USA flags.
Over in the second apartment – a renovated Victorian property - show home designers have turned to stage and film classic My Fair Lady for their inspiration, ensuring a resounding ‘yes’ to the question ‘Wouldn’t it be loverly’.
They’ve updated the classic production with sharp, black modern details on a calm grey and ivory background.
For buyers wishing they could dance all night the luxurious living area has plenty of space and a light, airy feeling thanks to the high ceilings, which also help to create the period feel of the apartment. A traditional pale grey sofa is used, along with silver leaf lamp tables and a tall bookcase. Gilt chairs, like those in the Oscar winning Rex Harrison/Audrey Hepburn film version of the rags to riches story, are used but given a modern twist thanks to a silver colouring, while a crisp white table cloth and white china maintain the classic feel.
The room is completed with pale ivory and grey wallpaper decorated with a poster and stills from the film, while a stunning chandelier adorns the ceiling
The colour scheme flows into the kitchen, where one of film’s most famous quotes has been painted onto the wall: “The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain.”
The bedroom has a contemporary boudoir feel and in true Audrey Hepburn style has a four-poster bed, chandelier and silver leaf bedside tables and dressing table. Works of art around the room depict women’s period dress. The bathroom completes the look of the apartment with wallpaper showing London scenes and faces from the pre-World War I era.
The opulence and dramatic effect of these two new show homes is more than matched by the rich woodland and open space that accounts for 85 of the development’s 120 acres. Homes are surrounded by lush green countryside, with fabulous views over rolling hills.
St Edward’s Park comprises the renovation and redevelopment of a former hospital close to the village of Cheddleton, which offers amenities including a small post office, pharmacy and a primary school. Nearby is the market town of Leek which has character in abundance with narrow cobbled shopping streets, ancient churches and historic markets, as well as three large supermarkets and a host of restaurants and public houses.
The development is also around 15 minutes away from Stoke-on-Trent and close to the M6, A52 and A53 for commuting further afield, including Manchester.
The curtain has now been being raised on these two theatrically inspired show homes and they are open weekdays between 12pm and 5.30pm, and from 10am on Saturday and Sunday.
