Education

The independent Rugby School may be one of the most famous educational establishments in the world, but it is not the only high quality school in the town. The selective Rugby High School for girls and Lawrence Sheriff School for boys are both rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, as is the co-ed Ashlawn School. Closer to home, Bilton High School is rated ‘Good’ across the board, with Avon Valley School also achieving a ‘Good’ rating.

There is plenty of choice for younger children too, including nearby Cawston Grange Primary, Bilton Infants and Juniors, Bawnmore Community Infants, Oakfield Primary and St Marie’s Catholic Primary, along with the independent prep, Crescent School.

Leisure

As you might expect for a town that invented one, Rugby is well catered for when it comes to sports, with the brand new Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre providing a wide range of facilities. Harris Sports Centre and Ken Marriott Leisure Centre also offer a range of pools, courts and pitches. For something different, you can try your hand at sailing on nearby Draycott Water, or take on the challenge of Rugby Golf Club.

For evening entertainment, Rugby is legendary for its large number of friendly pubs, and the town is also home to the Rugby Theatre Society venue as well as a Cineworld multi screen cinema.

Shopping

Shopping in Rugby Town Centre is focused on the Clocktower Shopping Centre, which has a range of famous names and fascinating independent stores. High Street and Sheep Street, either side of the Clocktower, are both pedestrianised.

Rugby has held a market since 1235, and you can still find bargains under canvas every week on Monday, Friday and Saturday. A monthly farmers’ market is also held in the town on the last Thursday of the month (except December when it is held on the Thursday before Christmas).

For an even bigger shopping experience, hop on a train to either Birmingham or London. Both are under an hour away, and provide everything you could possibly want in the way of retail therapy.
