ShoppingOkehampton shopping has grown to serve the tourist trade, with a choice of the modern Red Lion Yard shopping mall and traditional Victorian arcades. For out of town shopping, try the outlet stores at Mole Avon. There is a Sunday market in the town during the summer months, plus a Farmers’ Market every 1st and 3rd Saturday.
For a more extensive shopping trip, head for Exeter, where you’ll find the Princesshay, Guildhall and Harlequins shopping centres, as well as the designer bargains of the Atlantic Village Outlet. Plymouth also offers a wide selection of shops, including Drake Circus in the heart of the city.

TransportOkehampton lies close to the A30 trunk route, which now by-passes the town on a major dual carriageway. This links swiftly to Exeter, around 20miles away, and to Plymouth, via the A386, which is around 30miles away. Exeter is home to Exeter Airport, with flights across the UK and Europe, and you can also pick up the M5 here for all routes north and east.
Trains from Exeter reach Bristol in 1hr, London Paddington in as little as 2hrs 10mins and Birmingham in around 2½hours. Following the recent problems with the mainline from Exeter to Plymouth, where it was washed away at Dawlish, Network Rail are considering reinstating services via Okehampton as an alternative route, which would make the town even better connected.
