Her passion for the vocation started in craft lessons at secondary school where she was able to participate in woodwork for the first time. After completing a GCSE in engineering, she was enamoured with the carpentry class in sixth form, and it was then she decided to pursue it via an apprenticeship.
During a talk from ourselves at her school, Jasmine was convinced to apply for a position. Her teachers were very encouraging of the move, supporting her every step of the way. After a successful application, she began working within the Eastern division. Since then, she has been training at The Mulberries, our community of properties in Witham, Essex.
Jasmine’s decision to join the scheme was in part inspired by family. Her brother, who has also enjoyed a positive experience being an apprentice, alongside her grandparents, spurred her on. They have always been in support of apprenticeships, passing down their belief that ‘learning while you earn’ is a great way to progress a career – a sentiment now shared by Jasmine as she experiences this for herself.
Commenting on her experience, Jasmine says: “The Redrow team have been incredibly welcoming and made me feel right at home. As a generally male-dominated industry, I was nervous about entering the world of construction. However, Redrow have been really supportive and encouraging, putting me at ease instantly and giving me the confidence I needed. I’m thoroughly enjoying my experience and want to keep doing this job at Redrow until I retire!”
The scheme has been particularly useful for Jasmine to get to grips with the practical skills involved in carpentry, alongside continuation of her academia at college. She adds: “the first few months were the steepest learning curve, but the job has only become easier as I’ve gained more skills. I’m really looking forward to continuing my education, while gaining vital real-life experience with Redrow.”
We employ upwards of 250 apprentices at any one time, providing schemes across a range of specialisms, from site management, maintenance, commercial and office-based roles.
Applications for this year’s apprenticeship intake open in March. To find out more, please visit Redrow Careers.
