Redrow sponsored Silver End Heritage Society by providing £3500, covering the costs of updating and restoring the society’s digital archive. Additionally, Redrow donated £500 to the Silver End Parish Council, enabling them to purchase a new defibrillator for the village.
At present, the Heritage Society’s archive consists of around 3,000 images which are catalogued, charting the rich history of Silver End built by Francis Henry Crittall in the 1920s to house his factory workers. Redrow’s donation will be used to employ tech specialists who will organise the pre-existing images, as well as scanning and inputting hundreds of additional photos into the archive.
The restoration of the catalogue is set to be completed at the beginning of 2023 and will be comprised of a wide array of images submitted by the local community including personal photos, architecture, and newspaper cuttings which are frequently accessed by authors, students and filmmakers for research and information purposes.
Redrow’s donation to the Silver End Parish Council will enable the purchase of an additional defibrillator, ensuring that the whole village has better access to the life saving device. Following this, there are now three defibrillators in Silver End, with this one being installed by the Western Arms on Western Lane, and the others located in the centre of the village at the youth football club and at the pavilion off Silver Street.
Jackie Nesbitt, Secretary at Silver End Heritage Society, commented: “Redrow’s help in restoring our digital archive will tremendously benefit the community in Silver End, providing an organised catalogue of digital photographs for all local residents to enjoy. We anticipate that the archive will be finalised at the start of next year, becoming accessible to the public via our website.”
Bea Temple, Clerk to Silver End Parish Council, commented: “We are delighted to be recipients of Redrow’s donation. This donation will be integral to covering the costs of an additional defibrillator, an essential device that can be the critical difference when saving a life.”
Kerry McCoubrey, Sales Director at Redrow Eastern, commented: “At Redrow we are passionate about supporting and nurturing local communities. We are therefore pleased to announce our donations to Silver End Heritage Society and Silver End Parish Council. In both instances, the money will be going to splendid causes, preserving, and enhancing records of the fascinating history of Silver End and ensuring that another life saving device is at hand.”
