The donations are being made from a community grant linked to our new Willows Green development on Parkhurst Avenue.
Help has been extended to a local primary school, a new sports club, a befriending scheme and a project where digital devices which will be distributed to children and families in need.
Sian Pitt, sales director at the Buckshaw Village based Lancashire division, said: “All the groups we are helping positively impact their local community in Clayton-le-Woods. As a company, Redrow’s key values include building responsibly and creating thriving communities. We want to ensure we support neighbourhood projects that have positive impacts now and in the future.”
The four groups who received a £500 donation are:
- New Friends for You – a befriending charity that supports lonely and isolated people in the Leyland and Chorley area. They will be using the money to buy Easter Eggs for all members.
- Pickleball – a brand new sports club being introduced at Leyland and Clayton-le-Woods- leisure centres. The money will be used to buy new equipment.
- Clayton le Woods CE Primary School – the school will be using the money to create a pond and nature area that will be used by the school children and opened up to the community and other childcare establishments. This will provide links to the natural world in a safe and maintained environment.
- Chorley United Reformed Church – the donation will be used to support a project launched by local voluntary groups to address the lack of digital devices for children and young people to ensure they don’t fall behind with learning due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Alan Coley, county representative for Pickleball England, who lives in Clayton-le-Woods applied for the funding so he could establish pickleball in the local community and purchase all the equipment: “Pickleball was started in America but is now the fastest growing sport in the UK. It is a paddleball sport that combines elements of badminton, table tennis and tennis, where players use short-handled bats (called paddles) to hit a ball over a net. It’s a very social game which is particularly kind to the body and therefore good for players of all ages.
“Although the game is growing exponentially in the North West area, with proper transportable equipment we can now introduce it to the local schools, leisure centres and sports halls. The aim is to offer pickleball at Clayton Green and Leyland leisure centres and make pickleball part of the community’s weekly activities, as well as to local schools on their sports days etc.”
