A Lancashire site manager has been named Best Residential Site Manager for the whole of the North West, just over a year after taking on the role.
Jason Booth, 27, who currently leads our Worden Gardens development in Leyland, has been given the accolade by the Local Authority Building Control (LABC), whose Building Excellence Awards celebrate outstanding projects and individual contributions in the construction industry.
The awards focus on the very best in technical innovation and construction quality, helping to raise standards across England and Wales. For Best Residential Site Manager, applicants had to prove that they went beyond the call of duty to develop an outstanding working relationship with the local authority building control team as well as a commitment to creating excellent homes.
Jason, from Chorley, said: “I am absolutely chuffed to bits - and 100% surprised.
“I won the award for Willows Green in Clayton-le-Woods which was my first site, and first-timers don’t really get close to something like this.
Jason, who became a site manager in April last year after working his way up the ladder following an apprenticeship in bricklaying, said key, too, was developing a good relationship with his Chorley LABC inspector: “We were forever in touch, talking every other day, to make sure we met regulations, and that everything was right for the customer.
“We had no issues, even through Covid, so it paid off. Now they’ve put me on Lancashire’s busiest site!”
Having given credit to his mentor Simon Nix, who’s now project site manager for our Lancashire division, Jason went on: “I speak to people how I want to be spoken to. I never raise my voice and I never tell people to do something, I ask them, and I believe doing the job well is all about mutual respect.
“It is challenging. I’ve said before that the biggest part of my job is bringing it all together, and you rely on the people around you. At the end of the day it’s about always doing the job to the best of my ability.”
It’s the latest ‘win’ for Jason who took part in the Bolton-based Iron Man challenge in July this year. The triathlon event is one of the toughest endurance competitions involving a 2.4 mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile run, and Jason completed it in 14 hours and 14 minutes – well below the 15-hour target he set himself.
He raised just under £2,000 for our adopted charity, St Catherine’s Hospice, which provides care for patients and families across Chorley, Preston and South Ribble who are affected by life-shortening conditions.
“It’s been a fantastic year,” admitted Jason. “I started off with the Iron Man, then I got an NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award, and now this.”
Jason will now go through to the national Grand Finals of the LABC Building Excellence Awards to be held in London in January next year.
Head of construction Shaun Phoenix praised Jason, who he said had once again shown determination and commitment to achieving, and being, the very best.
Shaun said: “We are immensely proud of all of our managers who work hard and are committed to the creation of quality homes that people want to live in. Awards like these show that Redrow continues to get it right, thanks to people like Jason who give their all to ensure that our customers can rely on us for a better way of living.
“These awards do not come easily, they require effort and continued resolve to ensure that developments and those who work in them are the best that they can be, and it’s because of Jason’s sterling work and the respect he earns from everyone around him that he has won this sought-after award.
“He proves his metal in and away from the construction site, and we are delighted that he is part of the Redrow team.”
