We’ve presented a grant of £25,000 to Unitas Youth Zone, the independent charity and purpose-built centre for Barnet’s young people.
As well as being a founding patron of Unitas, in partnership with the London Borough of Barnet, this grant forms part of our ongoing commitment to charity and community. It is also in line with our aim to implement structured charitable giving, community activities and employee volunteering opportunities across our portfolio.
Unitas supports North London’s young people aged 8 to 19 - and those up to 25 with additional needs - with three things they deserve and need; somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to. Since it opened its doors in June 2019, it has rapidly become an essential social hub for more than 7,000 members. For just £5 a year or 50p per visit, Unitas provides a fun and safe place to spend leisure time, and helps to support young people to live healthier, happier and more aspirational lives.
Community engagement forms part of our placemaking principles. Located near to the development, Colindale Gardens, the ongoing support of Unitas complements our desire to create thriving communities.
Set across 47 acres, Colindale Gardens has established a reputation as a vibrant community, with extensive amenities on site, including an indoor gym and outdoor play areas and exercise equipment, as well as plans for local shops, cafés, and restaurants to help create a vibrant new destination. A planned health centre and new primary school will also provide essential community facilities on residents’ doorstep.
The local area is also undergoing transformation, with significant investment funding earmarked. Plans will bring new high-quality homes, amenities, services, facilities and transport upgrades to both Colindale and the surrounding areas of Brent Cross, West Hendon and Cricklewood.
Paul Muldowney, Managing Director, said: “Organisations like Unitas play an important role in the community, offering a chance for the young people of Barnet to make new friends as well as challenging them and supporting them to do their best.
“At Redrow we are committed to building thriving communities, and that starts with our young people. Over the last few years, Unitas provided an exceptional service for its community and we are proud to support them. As the area undergoes the next stage of its transformation, I’m excited to see Unitas continue its great work.”
