A North West charity that bring toiletries to those in need is getting valuable help from Redrow.
Special collection boxes have been sited at our Woodford Garden Village development in Woodford, Cheshire, and Tabley Park in Knutsford, where members of the public can donate toiletries to south Manchester based Bare Necessities Toiletry Bank.
Established by Wendy Hobson and a friend in 2018, Bare Necessities collects and distributes toiletries and hygiene products to those in need within the North West.
“After speaking to local charities about hygiene poverty, I quickly realised this largely undiscussed layer of poverty was affecting lots of local people with devastating effects on their lives,” said Wendy, chair of Bare Necessities.
“This isn’t about luxury items, these are essential, everyday items that many of us take for granted, no one should have to choose between eating and keeping clean.”
Today, Wendy and her team of over 20 volunteers work with 30 different organisations and charities, including food banks, schools and women’s aid.
“We accept everything from toilet rolls to toothbrushes, shampoo to nappies, but we can’t accept any form of medicine or anything that has been opened,” said Wendy.
“We have 20 donation boxes in key locations around the area, including our latest drop off points at two high-profile Redrow developments. Once collected, we sort and distribute all the items to those in need.
“One of our most requested items is toothpaste, so we created our Give a Smile dental bag, which contains three months’ supply for individuals and families.”
Anna Evans-Kerr, sales director for North West said: “Wendy and the team at Bare Necessities do an amazing job and provide a vital service which many people might not even think about. When we heard about their efforts we really wanted to help.
“Dozens of people pass through our customer experience suites and show homes every day and by hosting a drop off box at Woodford Garden Village and Tabley Park we can hopefully make more people aware of the charity and encourage lots more donations.”
