Northwich-based Apex Cheer travelled to Italy where they won six golds, one silver and two bronze medals at the Cheer 4 All European Cup.
After achieving a run of outstanding scores at the UKCA National Cheer & Dance Championship 2023, the team secured its spot in the cup for the first time and fundraised to fly all 36 members to Italy.
We donated £1000 to the team from our Hartford community fund that covered the cost of getting two members to the competition.
Team coach, Megan Sutton said: “Getting the team to Italy came at a cost, and we wanted to ensure that every member of the team could compete. We raised a total of £20,000 to support the team’s efforts through a series of fundraising events, sponsorships and engagement with businesses like Redrow within the area to help ensure that all of the team could take part. We took eight different teams who competed in three different categories: minis, juniors and seniors. We completed a two-day training camp and then competed for two days so it was quite full on but so worth it when we came home with as many medals as we did.”
Apex Cheer will turn six this year and is all about bringing fun and joy into cheerleading. The team train three times per week, for up to twelve hours, in locations in Hartford and Comberbach.
Megan continued: “Cheerleading is a very inclusive sport and Apex includes a range of girls and boys from ages three to 19. The children gain so much from being part of a team and it keeps the team active, fit, flexible and strong. Not only is being part of a team great for mental and physical health, but cheerleading has taught the members important life skills, especially regarding commitment and resilience.”
Area sales manager for Redrow Hartford Caroline Thompson-Jones said: “This is such a huge achievement for the team and we’re really pleased that we could contribute towards getting them get to Italy. The team trains close to where we’re building homes at Redrow Hartford so it’s special to know that we are supporting a club that is based just down the road.”
Redrow Hartford is made up of two phases, Weaver Park and Water’s Reach, on Woods Road. They offer a selection of three and four-bedroom properties.
