Community benefits for years to come as Penymynydd homes are quarter sold

24th May 2021
Redrow - Collections - Heritage - York - Brick Exterior

With 25% of homes now occupied, we reflect on almost £1.5 million worth of contributions that will leave a lasting legacy in Penymynydd long after the last home has been completed at Millstone View.

The area has seen some big changes since the development launched in 2019.

And it’s not just the new homes; there have been or will be positive changes in the local community too thanks to a raft of contributions from us.

Creating thriving communities is a key ethos for us and we aim to make a mark on surrounding areas through community investments linked to our planning consents. So, at Millstone View for example, the 181 two, three and four-bedroom homes have generated:

  • £450,000 for off-site affordable housing as well as 27 affordable properties within the development itself
  • £343,196 primary education contribution
  • £591,008 secondary education contribution
  • £20,000 ecology contribution
  • £4,000 highway contribution

The education contributions were earmarked for Penyffordd Primary School and Castell Alun High School.

In addition, we’ve exceeded our statutory commitments by supporting 14 community groups and good causes close to Millstone View through a £10,000 community fund.

One of a number of voluntary funds close to our developments, the Penymynydd fund was set up to support small projects at the heart of local life that could potentially make a big difference.

Some of the groups helped included Penyffordd Run Club, who used their donation to train three members as coaches; Penyffordd & Penymynydd Community Bowling Club, which upgraded floodlights around their bowling green; and Ramblers Cymru, who used their funding to replace a gate between Millstone View and Penyffordd village centre with an accessible wheelchair and buggy friendly gate.

Simon Bennett, interim sales director for the North West says: “Our ‘Thriving Communities’ ethos aims to create better places for people to live, but we apply it to the existing community not just the residents who live on our developments. The work that we have funded through our Section 106 planning commitments and our voluntary funds means that a variety of projects within Penymynydd and the surrounding community will be supported for years to come.”

Millstone View also enjoys an additional, environmentally friendly community benefit. It is adjacent to our previous development, Heritage Park, which created the new White Lion Nature Reserve alongside 85 new homes. The reserve’s ponds, wildflower meadows and walkways were cultivated by Redrow and are now managed and run by national wildlife charity, the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (ARC) Trust.

The reserve won a biodiversity award in 2019 and has become a place where guided walks, species surveys and pond dipping sessions, delivered by the ARC Trust, are now a popular feature within this community.

“It’s another good example of how we invest in the wider community, not just our homes, and create a lasting legacy for the areas where we build,” Simon adds.

Located off Chester Road, Millstone View has a range of three and four-bedroom homes available that start from £289,995. Find out more about the homes available at Millstone View or call our sales team on 01244 432832.
