Head of Department for Accounting and Finance at Chester Business School, David kept his eye on our plans to build homes on the outskirts of Chester from the earliest stages and couldn’t wait to secure one for him and his family.
David, 44, who is also an associate professor, loved the location and design of the development as much as he loved the house styles at Kings Moat Garden Village.
He said: “I watched it closely for around five years from the start of the planning process to the beginning of the building work and then continued to watch even after we had chosen our home. It’s been great to follow all the progress.”
David and his wife Juliana, 37, a health care assistant, moved from London to Chester after he got a job with the city’s university in 2013. At first David commuted from the capital on a weekly basis (staying in B&B’s), until in 2016 when he rented a house and moved his wife, and their children, Lady Dara, now 11, and Timothy, five.
He explained: “We didn’t want the briskness of living in London. We wanted a better environment to bring our children up in, a better lifestyle, and to be part of a community.
“As soon as I learned about Kings Moat Garden Village, I knew it was the development for us. We rented a house near to the site and I used to come every evening to watch it grow and to check on it.
“It was the ideal location for us,” added David. “Close to Chester Business Park and the Business School, and close to the children’s schools.
“We loved the idea of the garden village with plenty of greenery and places for the children, where they can play and feel safe. The layout was spot on and it ticked all the boxes.”
David and Juliana went to look at other new-builds in the area, but ours was the one that stood out to David: “When I came to view the development Redrow’s team came to speak to me and were respectful and very professional. As I looked at how the homes were being built, the site was always clean and there was attention to detail.
“The Redrow development seemed to go up steadily – my first degree was in land economy and valuation, so I know a little about these things – while others appeared to go up too fast, and the quality of materials used was good. I also chose Redrow because the fittings were good and the painting looked great.”
The couple chose a Stratford four-bedroom detached home, which has a spacious open-plan family, kitchen and dining area that extends the entire width of the property at the rear with double doors leading to the garden, along with a separate lounge. Upstairs are four good-sized bedrooms, the principle of which has an en-suite, and a family bathroom.
They used the online My Redrow tool to check on documents and every stage of progress, and to choose fittings, from basics like the style of kitchen they wanted to upgrades like the carpets and Amtico flooring.
There will eventually be 1,269 new homes created at Kings Moat Garden Village – more than half of them by us – and 38 three and four-bedroom private homes will be built within the Emperor Park phase, where David and Juliana have bought and properties are currently available from £324,995.
Kings Moat Garden Village sits off Wrexham Road, on the edge of Chester city centre with all that it offers, from the shopping facilities and leisure opportunities locally to great connections to other North West cities and beyond. Kings Moat Garden Village – including Emperor Park – will also have its own amenities, including a primary school, sports pitches, a health centre, shops and a pub/restaurant.
