Building Heroes is the UK’s leading tri-service military-to-construction charity and, working in partnership with Reaseheath College, they support the armed forces community and military veterans transition into employment within the construction sector.
We have provided a £500 grant to support the supply of construction workwear for Building Heroes’ learners, which was one of four community grants given to groups, charities or other good causes based in Nantwich, or serving the area around our Kingsbourne development.
Building Heroes provides training programmes and employability support, enabling learners to attain nationally recognised qualifications in as little as five weeks, whilst addressing the current skills gap affecting the construction and infrastructure sectors.
Working with further education colleges they deliver training, welfare support and employer introductions, to guide learners onto pathways for employment, self-employment or further training within the industry.
The donated funds will be used to purchase uniform for the learners. The provision of this uniform is an essential part of removing barriers for the completion of the programme, ensuring all learners have access to the work clothes needed and, at the end of the course, they have workwear that ensures they are ‘site ready’.
“A learner will leave our course with a Level 1 Diploma in construction multi-skills, construction health and safety certificate, CSCS card (green) and asbestos awareness,” said Jason Renshaw, Building Heroes course co-ordinator.
He continues, “Annually, we conduct six courses for 72 learners in Cheshire, with 90% securing jobs post-training. Our enduring partnership with Reaseheath College ensures veterans integrate into civilian life while cherishing military camaraderie. Our goal is to remove barriers, like workwear costs, ensuring every participant is work ready”. Thank you to Redrow for this grant, which will make a huge difference to Building Heroes and our learners.”
Anna Evans-Kerr, sales director at Redrow NW, said: “These community grants are designed to support small projects at the heart of local life that can potentially make a big difference. We are very pleased to be able to offer financial support to Building Heroes, who carry out incredible work in our community. I wish its learners all the very best for the future.”
The community grants are in addition to our contributions outlined as part of the planning consent’s section 106 agreements, which total around £2.75million. This includes money for local primary education, highways improvements and public realm plus provision for Acton Village.
Work is currently underway on our final phase at Kingsbourne. Started in 2018, Kingsbourne will feature 324 Redrow homes in total and has been a popular destination for house hunters. The wider development will see over 1,000 properties built by a consortium of developers.
The open space, play areas, multi-use games area, new road, and major infrastructure, alongside proposed commercial elements of the development, are all part of the consortium works. Within the masterplan for Kingsbourne, there is also an allocation for a new school site and a new community/commercial hub, which will potentially include new shops and services, subject to planning.
