The phone box, purchased by Little Sutton Sapphires WI, also received a donation from Redrow towards restoration work.
“We purchased the telephone box in the village as it was due to be removed, said Lisa McGowan, president of Little Sutton Sapphires WI. “We intend to restore it for the whole of the community to enjoy and secure its future.
“Our hope is that we can use it for different things during the year that will appeal to different people at different times. Suggestions so far are a seed swap, art exhibition, group notice board or wellbeing project.
“We’d like to thank Redrow for this funding, which will allow us to replace the interior of the phone box with a suitable structure and upgrade the exterior paint work in line with current health and safety standards and any ongoing maintenance/running costs for the next couple of years.”
This funding is through our West Cheshire Fund, linked to Ledsham Garden Village. The fund has supported a number of local community groups.
Anna Evans-Kerr, sales director at Redrow NW added: “It is wonderful to hear how this phone box has been saved by this community group and we were delighted to be able to help them in renovating it for future generations.
“We look forward to seeing how it is going to be used.”
Ledsham Garden Village is a scheme of circa 2,000 homes set amid 100 acres of open space, having committed to investing £13 million to support the growth of the neighbourhood.
