This year the team at Redrow NW have sponsored two ducks; one has been decorated by pupils at William Stockton Primary School and the other by our sales consultant Kelly for whom The Countess Charity is very close to her heart.
Kelly Toner, from Boughton, Chester lost her father Keith Toner in December 2022. Before his passing, Keith was cared for by the team in the intensive care unit at the Countess.
“The hospital and the team mean a lot to my mum and our family, there were some lovely people looking after my dad,” said Kelly.
“We raised money for the Countess at my dad’s funeral too, so I was very pleased to hear that Redrow had sponsored another duck for me.
“My mum and I have been busy decorating our duck as Batman, which is a nod to my dad who always greeted his friends with an ‘alright batman’.”
This year’s Chester Duck Race will be held on Saturday, April 1, on The River Dee to raise money for The Countess of Chester Hospital and Kelly will be attending along with a number of her colleagues to volunteer on the day and cheer everyone on in her dad’s memory.
The annual event will include community and corporate sponsored ducks, which have been decorated and dressed up to undertake the race.
Anna Evans-Kerr, sales director at Redrow NW said: “This is a great event for the local community, and we are very grateful to the pupils at William Stockton Primary School for decorating one of our ducks – who looks amazing.
“We know how highly Kelly thinks of the team at the Countess, so we wanted to show our support to Kelly and her family by sponsoring a second duck this year in her dad’s honour, whilst also raising much needed funds for the hospital. Kelly and her mum have done a brilliant job with their superhero themed duck.
“Four members of our team will also be volunteering on the day, so our ducks have plenty of supporters.”
Mark Allen, head teacher at William Stockton Primary School, added: “The Chester Duck Race is always a great event, and we are really pleased to have been able to help Redrow by decorating their duck. Let’s hope it can swim!”.
