Daresbury District Heritage Group seeks to tell the story of the parish of Daresbury since Anglo Saxon times, relying heavily on local archives, information from villagers and genealogy websites.
The heritage group successfully applied for a portion of our Daresbury Community Fund, which shared £10,000 between groups, charities and schools in the surrounding area, linked to its latest development Daresbury Garden Village, and were given funds to purchase census records from 1921 as well as a new daylight projector.
“We engage people far and wide, telling the story of Daresbury parish, its people and its places,” said Sue Lancaster, chair of Daresbury District Heritage Group. “We aim to enthuse and engage them in local history and encourage them to share their stories with others. We wanted to purchase the 1921 census to find out information about families whose members fought in WW2 and to build up a picture of the parish in the 1920s. These records are helping us to do this. Our new projector is working very well and enables us to give illustrated talks throughout the year. The room where we hold our meetings has no black out facility and our old projector wasn't good enough for the lighter evenings. We’d like to thank Redrow for this funding, which has made such a difference to our heritage group.”
Chris Edwards, area sales manager for our North West division said: “We are so pleased to hear that our community fund is helping the heritage group discover Daresbury’s past. Our funds were set up to offer funding to groups working in our communities, we are proud to be able to help the group uncover a little part of history for future generations.”
Featuring 80 new homes, Keckwick Park is the latest phase at Daresbury Garden Village, which will eventually include 800 properties across 120 acres of land, with open spaces, green corridors and areas for play.
Located off Delph Lane, the development is close to junction 11 of the M56 and the new Mersey Gateway Bridge and is within easy reach of all the amenities of Stockton Heath, Warrington and Runcorn.
