As part of our community fund initiative, our South Midlands division, which is currently building new homes at Lucas Gardens, on Ivel Road, has donated £500 to 1st Shefford Scout Group.
The 1st Shefford Scout Group has been a prominent feature in the town since 1909 and has helped generations of local children to achieve their physical, intellectual, and social potential – all while making friends and having fun.
During the pandemic, the group moved its activities online to Zoom as face-to-face scouting was forced to be suspended, which meant the leased building which the scouts occupy has been left unused since March 2020 and has consequently acquired a long list of much-needed repairs.
Thanks to our donation, the group will now be able to make a number of upgrades to its community building, including better disabled access at the front and rear of the property, and fitting mains wired smoke alarms and heat detectors.
Alexandra Maycock, Executive Committee Chair of 1st Shefford Scout Group, commented: “The need to support young people and their mental health and wellbeing, especially in light of COVID-19, remains a top priority for us. Despite adapting our activities for online, we know nothing beats the benefits social interaction in person brings which is why we’re so keen to begin the refurbishment and get back to face-to-face scouting.
“We can’t thank Redrow enough for their generous contribution – this has been a very welcome and much needed donation.”
