The donation has gone towards an on-site allotment garden, named The Peter Rabbit Garden, with gardening equipment for each raised bed bringing each class outside to enjoy a range of different activities, improving gardening knowledge and understanding whilst boosting positive mental and physical wellbeing.
Allotments are a terrific way of promoting a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to reducing your carbon footprint, a cause very important for Winscombe’s students.
Lorna Richardson, Executive Head of Winscombe Primary School, commented: “Alongside our Co op and PTFA donations, this donation has been a good way of getting our children to get involved with outdoor pursuits in a more hands-on and active way and supports our recent Eco drive. All our children now have a newfound passion for gardening!”.
Kevin Bradford, Redrow’s Sales Manager in the Southwest, remarked: “We’re so pleased to be able to help the children in our local community. We know how important it is for them to be outside as much as possible following the pandemic”.
The initiative will have the classes learning how to grow fruit and vegetables.
The benefits of working on an allotment are endless, including the physical benefits of gardening, the exposure to nature which is important to inspire more environmentally aware behaviour in children, and the sense of achievement that comes with growing produce, along with the satisfaction from eating your first homegrown vegetables.
Set in Somerset’s Mendip Hills, Redrow’s beautiful Woodborough Grange development located close to the school offers a traditional village lifestyle with an active community centre. Just 14 miles from Bristol, the Heritage Collection homes are available from £382,995. For more information on the development, visit Woodborough Grange.
