Pupils from Trinity Church of England/Methodist Primary School near Chorley have been screen tested as the first phase of the project, which will see the youngsters produce, present and film news stories about their school and life at Buckshaw Village.
The finished footage will be broadcast on Redrow’s award-winning broadband television channel Redrow.TV and the school will be presented with a DVD to commemorate the project.
Kim Peters, Redrow’s group sales and marketing director, explained: “At Redrow we want to play an active role in the communities in which we build and engaging with schools is a great way for us to do just that. Redrow.TV has been a great success and we are delighted to be able to offer school children the chance to make their own film, taking on roles of presenters, producers, cameramen and film operators.
“Buckshaw Village is the ideal place to pilot the scheme as there’s a real buzz about the place and along with new homes, there’s a new school. We’re hoping to roll the project out across England and Wales so that other children can enjoy learning new skills.”
Teachers at Trinity Church of England/Methodist Primary School pre-selected two children from each class who they considered to be confident speakers. Those children then took part in auditions to become pupil presenters for Redrow.TV. The children who are the most natural and confident will be chosen to host their school news. Others will work on the project behind the scenes.
The Redrow.TV team will return to the school shortly to help children put together their own news programme and filming will take place.
Ean Quirk, information communication technology co-ordinator at Trinity Church of England/Methodist Primary School, said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen to pilot the project and the children are looking forward to taking part in the event and developing new skills. The project has cross curricular benefits as they will be exploring where they live and how the neighbourhood has evolved geographically and historically, they will use their literacy skills to take part in interviews and use new technology to film the activity.”
