Family fun day set to boost Lupus awareness

Flintshire families are being invited to enjoy a charity fun day and car boot sale which could help banish the kids’ boredom and declutter the house at the same time.

Hosted by Redrow Homes, the event will take place on Saturday August 2 at the company’s head office at St David’s Park in Ewloe, to raise money for Lupus North Wales.

There will be plenty of activities to keep the children occupied such as face painting, glitter tattoos and a mini funfair. There will also be a tombola, various craft and cake stalls, Zumba demonstrations and a family dog show with lots of prizes on offer. Redrow’s hot air balloon will be present and refreshments will include fun fair goodies such as hot dogs, burgers and candy floss.

Additionally, there will be the opportunity to bag a bargain at the car boot sale or even sell some unwanted items.

The event is being held as part of the housebuilder’s 40th anniversary year celebrations, during which its employees are taking part in a year-long ‘charity challenge’.

Each of the company’s 11 operational divisions across England and Wales, plus employees from its Group headquarters and sister company Harrow Estates, have selected one or more local charities to focus their fundraising efforts on for the year.

The chosen charity by Redrow's head office employees is the North Wales Lupus Group, a regional member of LUPUS UK, the national charity supporting people with Lupus. It also assists them as they approach diagnosis of this, as yet, incurable immune system illness.

Chair of Lupus North Wales, Karen Newby said: “We’re thrilled to have been chosen as Redrow Group’s charity for 2014 as part of the company’s special anniversary year. The family fun day will be a great event and there will be lots for all ages to enjoy.

“The money raised will help to provide support to sufferers of Lupus in North Wales and also go towards funding the research to try and find a much needed cure for the illness.”

Wendy Martin, Redrow’s senior marketing manager, added: “This free event will be a great way to start the school holidays and help raise money for a worthy cause in the process. Everyone is welcome on the day and we’re looking forward to raising awareness of Lupus and making sure all our visitors, young and old, have a fantastic time!”

Redrow Group has already hosted numerous fundraising events this year in aid of Lupus North Wales including clothes recycling, dress down days, monthly cake sales and a quiz night. Additionally, there have been monthly raffles and auctions with prizes, donated by Redrow’s suppliers, including a day’s charter on a luxury yacht for eight people. So far they’ve raised approximately £8,000 but are hoping the fun day will boost this total even more.

The Family Fun day will be held on Saturday, August 2 from 11am until 3pm in the car park of Redrow’s Ewloe’s headquarters at St David’s Park, CH5 3RX.

For those that wish to take a car boot sale space, places are £10 each and can be booked by emailing Sheila Iremonger at
