One Commercial Street, Redrow’s landmark 21-storey tower in the heart of London, was voted the country’s best High-Rise Residential Development at the prestigious UK Property Awards, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, in Park Lane, London. The luxury apartment scheme will now go on to compete internationally against some of the world’s most notable tall buildings.
Meanwhile, Glynderwen Meadows in Oakdale, South Wales, won the Large Development title in the 2013 BuildQuality Awards, which formed part of the Sunday Times British Homes Awards. The ceremony was held at The London Marriott Hotel, in Grosvenor Square.
John Tutte, Redrow’s group managing director, said: “To win two national titles in one day at two separate award ceremonies was a great achievement and is further recognition that our developments are amongst the best in the industry. But award success isn’t just about patting ourselves on the back; it sends a positive message out to prospective customers about what they can expect from Redrow and reassures existing homeowners that they have invested wisely.”
A truly mixed development, One Commercial Street boasts 133 luxury apartments and four penthouses for private sale, with Tesco and Pret a Manger at ground level, offices on floors one to six and 70 properties for affordable rent and shared ownership on levels seven to 11. It is situated above Aldgate East tube station, on the edge of the Square Mile financial district and close to the fashionable City Fringe area that includes Brick Lane and Spitalfields. The stunning 21-storey glazed tower offers spectacular views across London’s skyline.
All of these factors impressed UK Property Awards’ judges sufficiently to make the scheme their ‘best in class’ choice. As such it will now automatically compete in the International Final ‘World’s Best’ Property Awards to be hosted in London this coming December. There it will judged against winning schemes from Africa, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Europe and the Americas.
Several other Redrow developments were Highly Commended at county or national level during the UK Property Awards, including:
Lord Bates, Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords, presented the winning companies with special plaques during the awards ceremony.
Entry to the British Homes BuildQuality Awards, meanwhile, is by invitation only and restricted to developments that have previously been recognised for the quality of their construction. Glynderwen Meadows in Oakdale, Caerphilly, which features family homes from Redrow’s Arts & Crafts inspired Heritage Collection, was nominated after site manager Syd James was named the UK’s top site manager at the 2012 NHBC Pride in the Job awards.
The award was presented during the Sunday Times British Homes Awards, where Redrow also made the shortlist for Homebuilder of the Year, as did The Highgrove at Compton Park, Wolverhampton, in the Best Family Home category.
