New appointment helping Redrow develop a pipeline of talent

Housebuilder Redrow is cementing its reputation for developing its staff with the appointment of Jon Chadwick as group learning and development manager.

Jon has worked in learning and development for over a decade, most recently for Briggs Equipment UK Ltd, where part of his role was to set up a training academy. During his career Jon’s covered a range of roles within the construction, engineering, rail and materials handling industries.

It means that the 33-year-old, from Derby, is well placed to help Redrow to continue to attract the most talented people and equip them with the skills they need to progress their career.

Jon, who is based at Redrow’s training centre in Tamworth, said: “One of the biggest challenges to the industry is talent. We must encourage quality people into the business and provide them with opportunities to develop so that we have a pipeline of talent for the future. Redrow has a strong culture of development and invests in its staff to help them to develop and progress. With the right training today’s apprentices could go on to become the managers and leaders of the future.”

Part of Jon’s role is to introduce new training schemes and innovative ways to deliver them.

“We’ll be taking a more blended approach to development, utilising different methods of delivery. Everyone has their own learning styles and development needs so we want to develop a range of resources and interventions to suit them,” he explains.

Karen Jones, human resources director, says: “Redrow is already an industry leader in our provision of training for staff and our culture of promoting from within. We take pride in the quality and skills of our workforce but a rapidly changing business environment means training is key to staying ahead of our competitors. With Jon’s expertise we will be able to further enhance development opportunities for our employees.”

One of the UK’s most successful and acclaimed housebuilders, Redrow constructs over 3,500 premium quality homes a year in prime locations across England and Wales. The company directly employs around 1,350 people and provides employment for thousands of sub-contractors on its new homes developments. Around 15% of its employees are trainees and the company earned a place in the top 100 apprentice employers in England in 2014, as well as the 2014 Building Good Employer Guide - an independently compiled list of the construction industry’s top 50 employers, both for the second consecutive year.
