Redrow extends its apprenticeship offering

A new commercial apprenticeship is being offered by Redrow as the company looks to develop ‘home grown’ surveyors.

The training scheme has been developed alongside Coleg Cambria and the Chartered Surveyors Trust in line with Redrow’s business needs. It will see 12 candidates complete a two year apprenticeship as they work towards an NVQ in surveying.

Karen Jones, HR director for Redrow, said: “We’re committed to nurturing new talent and giving young people opportunities to develop new skills. Around 14% of our employees are trainees and our superior training has earned us a place in the top 100 apprentice employers in England.

“The introduction of the commercial apprenticeship adds to our extensive programme of training schemes which already includes trade and office apprenticeships, post-graduate training in a variety of disciplines, under-graduate work placements and technical trainees. It will give young people the opportunity to join an award-winning team and develop both their skills and reputation.”

Working for a FTSE 250 company, Redrow employees can expect a face paced, dynamic environment and look forward to plenty of opportunities for career development.

Starting in September, the commercial apprentices will work with commercial departments nationwide as they learn about quantity surveying including estimating the cost of construction projects, tendering, purchasing subcontractor services, buying materials and ensuring that developments are delivered within budget.

Katie Griffiths, employer engagement and jobs growth Wales manager at Coleg Cambria, said: “We commend Redrow for having the foresight to identify a need for a new training scheme for budding surveyors. As a leading provider of training to businesses we welcomed the opportunity to work with Redrow to develop the commercial apprenticeship programme. It’s a fantastic opportunity for young people to learn new skills with great potential for career development.”

As part of the programme apprentices will receive in-house training on block release.

For the most successful apprentices there is also the possibility of progressing on to a fully funded RICS accredited degree.

“It’s the job of our commercial teams to ensure that we can deliver premium quality homes that have earned us five-stars for customer satisfaction, at the best possible cost. As a commercial apprentice you can help us achieve that by estimating the overall budget, purchasing materials and subcontractor services, plus monitoring costs,” Karen added.

“We have some of the most advanced systems in the industry and strong relationships with our suppliers. Combined with our training, this is an exceptional environment to build your career. Redrow is a highly innovative company with ambitious plans; there’s plenty of scope here for you to grow with us.”
