Redrow's new training course gives site operatives the tools for career success

Housebuilder Redrow is building on its commitment to employee development with the launch of a new training course on offer to its fork lift drivers and site labourers.

The course has been created by Redrow’s in-house training department with the guidance of health and safety director Dave Ford and construction director Bob Sowden in a bid to give site operatives a further insight into the company as a whole whilst providing a springboard for career advancement.

Dave said: “The course does a fantastic job of presenting our labourers and fork lift drivers with information and activities that were previously directed towards site managers and staff at our head office. But these site operatives are our eyes and ears and we have developed the course with the emphasis on how important they are while also offering them an opportunity for career progression.”

The one-day course is run by site managers Thomas Marsden and Steve Ashbridge and covers a range of subjects including ‘Redrow past and future’, the role of a site operative, health and safety and career progression.

Dave added: “It is the ideal opportunity for Redrow’s site operatives to get to know Redrow as well as meeting and networking with other site labourers and fork lift drivers.”

Steve Hardwell, a site assistant trainee based in Bristol, was one of the first people to attend the course. He said: “I was really impressed with the training course. It started off with a team bonding exercise which was perfect because we could all get to know each other. Then throughout the day it really made me realise how important we are on site and within Redrow. It was a real morale booster and I walked away from it feeling very proud to work for Redrow.”
