Luxury Redrow home strikes gold

A luxury Cheshire home has won top honours for its good looks at a prestigious awards ceremony that celebrates the nation’s very best new homes.

Linley House, at Stretton Green, near Chester, won gold in the best exterior design category of the What House awards, deemed to be the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry. At the same ceremony, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London and hosted by comedian Dave Spikey, Redrow Homes took the silver award for best large housebuilder.

Announcing the Stretton Green show home as their exterior design winner, What House judges said: “Linley House has the quality of a one-off house; it reinterprets the timeless characteristics of the English country house without attempting to copy, and its strength of character in both material and detail makes it a worthy winner!”

They cited the property’s impressive presence, strong form, steeply pitched roofs and strong materiality of brick and stone, adding: “Locharbriggs red sandstone is used as a plinth and for window surrounds and a complementary orange/red multi-stock brick gives a rich texture and density to the facades. The use of timber windows is to be particularly applauded, giving a welcome material authenticity. Overall, the quality of construction is high, setting a benchmark for the market.”

The impressive five-bedroom detached home has already scooped a silver gilt award in the New Homes Garden Awards and is shortlisted for ‘Best Family New Build Home’ at the prestigious Northern Design Awards.

The fully furnished showhome promotes a collection of four and five-bedroom country homes, 10 miles from Chester, adjacent to Carden Park Hotel – home owners are given complimentary golf club and spa membership – and close to the villages of Tilston and Farndon. Current prices are from £799,000 to £1,150,000.

Later, awarding Redrow silver in the best large housebuilder category, What House judges said: “Another strikingly successful year for Redrow, which has seen its continued push into the London market, but still cementing its reputation nationwide for classy, stylish, family homes - all delivered with a marketing edge and vitality that sets the standard.

“Away from the capital, Redrow’s Heritage Collection remains a winner in the regions, with the Arts & Crafts look, but all the modern bells and whistles inside. Period-style features are coveted by many homebuyers, but without falling into the trap of pastiche and this is where Redrow excels – the individual, within a familiar framework.”

They also praised Redrow for making excellent use of government initiatives such as Help to Buy, for highlighting industry issues, delivering top customer satisfaction results and leading the way in recruitment and training of staff.

Redrow’s group managing director John Tutte, who collected both awards, said: “Awards such as these send out a positive message to prospective customers about what they can expect from Redrow, while at the same time reassuring existing homeowners that they have invested wisely. We are delighted with these latest accolades, which come hot on the heels of our One Commercial Street venture in London being a national winner at the UK Property Awards, with six other schemes highly commended.”
