Redrow's Yorkshire MD steps up to new Regional role

Warren Thompson has been promoted to regional chief executive at Redrow Homes.

Previously managing director of Redrow’s Yorkshire housing division, Warren, 42, from Sheffield, will now oversee three housing divisions covering all of Yorkshire, Lancashire and the rest of the North West and North Wales, reporting to the housebuilder’s Executive Board.

His promotion comes two years after he joined Redrow, with a pledge to grow the Yorkshire division’s output to circa 500 units, which it is set to achieve in the current financial year.

He also affirmed Redrow’s commitment to growth in Yorkshire’s ‘golden triangle’ between York, Harrogate and North Leeds and, during the last two years, has presided over the launch of new developments in York, Harrogate and Sherburn-in-Elmet, as well as ongoing success in Newton Kyme and Horsforth.

Earlier this year it was also announced that Redrow had been chosen to deliver up to 300 new homes at Thorpe Park, in East Leeds, a joint venture between Scarborough Group International and Legal & General Capital.

“Having achieved what I set out to do in Yorkshire with the support of great staff and a strong management team, I now feel I have reached a point in my career where I am ready for this great opportunity and fresh challenge of ensuring that Redrow maintains its position of strength and achieves further growth across the North of England and North Wales. This region is very much Redrow’s ‘heartland’, the company having been founded here more than 40 years ago, so I consider it a privilege to be given the post of regional chief executive.”

More than 20 years in the construction and housing industry, Warren joined Redrow in 2014 from Avant Homes (previously Gladedale), where he spent almost nine years and was managing director of three different businesses.

John Tutte, Group chief executive for Redrow, which has its headquarters at St David’s Park, Flintshire, said: “Warren’s promotion is well deserved and is one of a number of senior management changes designed to ensure we can meet the demands of an expanding business. In the two years he has been with us, Warren has impressed with his management style and the results achieved, he will be an asset to our Executive Board.”

Warren’s promotion leaves a vacant seat for managing director at Wakefield-based Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), which will be filled by the transfer of recent recruit James Poynor from Redrow’s Midlands housing business.

James, 43, joined Redrow from Countrywide plc, where latterly he was group residential development director, overseeing its planning, land, consultancy, new homes sales and investment arms in the new homes sector both in the UK and Hong Kong. His arrival at Redrow signalled a return to the housebuilder sector, having previously spent almost three years as a sales director for Barratt.

Previous Northern regional chief executive Matthew Pratt remains in a similar post but now overseeing Redrow’s South Midlands, South East, Eastern and Southern Counties housing divisions.

Established more than 40 years, Redrow Homes is one of the UK’s leading house builders, with a £1.4 billion turnover and building more than 4,700 homes in 2015/16 financial year.
