Redrow seeks local views on Bangor housing plan

Developer Redrow has begun the process of consulting local people about proposals for new homes in Penrhosgarnedd, Bangor.

Leaflets were delivered to more than 500 surrounding households over the weekend, inviting residents to submit their ideas on what type of place any new development should be.

Victoria Murray, head of land and planning for Flintshire based Redrow Homes (NW), said: “We are starting to prepare a planning application for the land south of Penrhos Road and are keen to consult local people so that we can hopefully reflect their views.”

Gwynedd Council has previously identified in its Local Plan that the nine-hectare site could provide up to 270 new homes in total.

“We envisage a mix of homes to meet local needs; everything from two-bedroom apartments and two / three-bedroom terraced homes through to three and four-bedroom detached family homes, including affordable options for key workers and those on lower incomes,” Victoria explained.

“Our proposed development would boost the local economy with the injection of money and jobs during construction, plus wider benefits to existing shops and facilities. We also expect to make contributions to the Council to spend on improvements and amenities within the local community.”

Local people are invited to email their comments by September 26th to Penrhosgarnedd@redrow.co.uk or they can write to Redrow Homes (NW), Redrow House, St Davids Park, Ewloe, Flintshire, CH5 3RX.

Redrow has already carried out some ground investigations on site and submitted a planning application for access. If approved, any new housing would be phased over a number of years.

Redrow builds extensively in North and South Wales but the proposed development at Penrhosgarnedd would be its first scheme in Bangor. Originally a small civil engineering company founded in 1974 by Steve Morgan in the spare bedroom of a bungalow in Rhyl, today Redrow builds more than 2,600 new homes per year in Wales and England and is noted for its New Heritage Collection of traditional looking, high quality, family homes.
