Redrow helps family jump homebuying hurdles

After a succession of house-moving setbacks, the Collinsons are now settled into their brand new home thanks to a little help from their family and the team at Redrow Homes.

The housebuilder was on hand to help the family conquer a variety of unforeseen obstacles and supported them along their journey to ensure they could purchase their new home at Birch Grange in Rochdale.

“We had everything in place so many times,” Kate Collinson explained. “We’d been looking for a home with a garden suitable for our son, Benjamin George, who’ll be two in November, and we’d had our eyes on a Redrow home since seeing the showhome at Birch Grange over a year ago.

“We had a property to sell and had various issues with buyers pulling out. The process kept getting more and more drawn out as we were hit with further delays.

“However, everyone at Redrow has been great and really stepped up to the mark every time we thought we’d hit a wall. We used the recommended solicitors and mortgage advisor and everything on the Redrow side went very smoothly; they just weren’t fazed by any of the obstacles or the long wait for us to sell. We’ve finally managed to move into our new home and we absolutely love it.”

At one point Kate, 29, a fundraiser for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and her husband Simon, 34, a marketing director, got to a stage where they thought they would have to pull out of buying a Redrow home. That’s when Kate’s parents decided to buy their property so Kate and Simon could make a fresh start.

“If it wasn’t for Redrow being so patient and our family helping out, we’d have really struggled and probably wouldn’t have been able to move,” she added.

Having sold subject to contract, the Collinsons were then able to use Help to Buy to purchase their new four-bedroom detached ‘Winchester’ housetype, with just a 5% deposit and a government-backed equity loan which reduced the initial asking price by 20%.

And, while waiting for their new home to be completed, the couple made good use of My Redrow, an award winning online tool that allows customers to check the progress of their home as well as select from a wide variety of fixtures and fittings.

“Help to Buy was a surprisingly easy process and My Redrow was very user friendly as we could receive regular updates on how the build was progressing and guidance as to what we needed to provide and do at each stage,” Kate added.

It’s help and understanding like this that’s helped Redrow to retain its five star customer satisfaction rating from the Home Builders Federation (HBF) for four consecutive years, with over 90% of customers saying they would recommend Redrow to family and friends.

There are now only a few homes remaining at Birch Grange so those wishing to follow in the Collinsons’ footsteps are being urged to visit the marketing suite off Birch Road in the Wardle area of Rochdale to get a taste of the lifestyle on offer. While there, visitors can also receive a demonstration of My Redrow.

Birch Grange enjoys views over neighbouring fields and the Pennines beyond and the remaining three and four-bedroom detached homes, range from £219,995 to £269,995.
