Buster Bear helps children learn about building site safety

Primary school children have been learning about how to stay safe near building sites after staff from Redrow visited a school near Chester.

The 200 children from ages five up to 11 at Acresfield Primary School in Upton also had the opportunity to meet the housebuilder’s health and safety mascots, Buster Bear and his keen apprentice Buddy.

Redrow’s area construction manager Paul Cromby also gave a talk to the school’s Busy Bees group on how to build a house so the children could learn how their own homes are created.

Special needs co-ordinator and member of the school’s senior leadership team Kate Roberts said: “The children really engaged and loved meeting Buster and Buddy. They were still talking about them the day after! The message came over really well and the children enjoyed learning about all the safety equipment and clothing as it was an interactive, fun talk.

“Because the school is so close to Chester Zoo, and there is currently a lot of building work going on, the talk was particularly relevant as the children see cranes and various machinery regularly. They now know all about safety on building sites thanks to Redrow.”

Redrow’s group health and safety manager Charlotte Weston added: “Redrow is committed to the communities in which we build and because the school is so close to Crown Park it was great to be given the opportunity to talk to the pupils and raise awareness of safety on construction sites.”

The homes at Crown Park all come from Redrow’s award-winning Heritage Collection and marry a traditional Arts and Crafts architectural design with contemporary, 21st Century interiors.
