Buster Bear helps children learn about building site safety

Primary school children have been learning about how to stay safe near building sites after staff from Redrow visited a school in Buckley.

The 46 children aged five and six at Southdown Primary School also had the opportunity to meet the housebuilder’s health and safety mascots, Buster Bear and his keen apprentice Buddy.
Leigh Fitzpatrick and Tom Kelly from Redrow’s health and safety department, both based at the company’s headquarters in Ewloe, talked to the children along with sales consultants Helen Pirie and Daniel Stokoe, based at the housebuilder’s Abode and Heathlands developments on Drury Lane nearby.

Year 1 teacher Danielle Carrigan said: “The children really engaged with every aspect of the visit. They particularly enjoyed meeting Buster and Buddy and trying on the high vis vests, gloves and safety glasses. They asked some great questions and we all found it very useful indeed, as we have not yet broached the health and safety aspect with them.”

Trainee health and safety manager Leigh Fitzpatrick added: “Redrow is committed to the communities in which we build and it was great to be given the opportunity to talk to the pupils and raise awareness of safety on construction sites.”
