Time to buy in Wigan

Mortgage lending is at a five year high and home loans are said to be at their most affordable for over a decade, suggesting now is the time to buy a brand new home in Wigan.

During the summer months there were unseasonal increases in house prices as the housing market showed signs of recovery. Now as industry experts predict further price rises fuelled by a growth in demand and consumer confidence, Redrow is holding an event at College Court in Wigan to help get people moving.

From 11am to 4pm on Saturday (September 14) visitors to the popular development will be guided through Help to Buy, the scheme that makes homeownership more affordable with the aid of an equity loan.

Claire Jarvis, sales director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), says: “News that mortgages are at their most affordable for 14 years and that lending is at a five year high has almost certainly bolstered consumer confidence.  College Court was already popular with buyers and we have seen an increase in enquiries in recent months as people realise that securing a mortgage is perhaps easier than they anticipated. This Saturday we’re helping to make moving home even simpler with an event to explain all about Help to Buy.

“We’ll be guiding visitors through the scheme, explaining that it’s not just for first time buyers as it can also be used to purchase a bigger property to accommodate a growing family or by those starting over after a change of circumstances. They should only need a relatively small deposit of around 5% and will be able to reduce the cost of homeownership by taking out an equity loan for up to 20% of the price.”

Located off Robin Court Road, College Court offers a good choice of properties ranging from two-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom detached family homes.

Current prices start from just £103,995 or as little as £83,196 with Help to Buy. The lower price includes a 5% customer deposit of £5,200 and a mortgage of £77,996. The remaining 20% share is covered by an equity loan from the Government. The loan is interest free for five years and can be repaid when the customer has more funds available or when they resell.

All of the homes at College Court boast a high specification as standard. Kitchens are well equipped with integrated top brand name appliances, while bathrooms and en-suite enjoy quality fixtures and fittings.
