The village of West Derby is scoring increasing success with homebuyers as a top division destination, and fans who invest in this up-and-coming area will not be disappointed with the result, says independent homes expert Rosamond Day.
Rosamond, relationship manager for estate agents Property Perspective, says the area has always been a sought-after location, but a recent renaissance has seen its popularity rise even further.
“West Derby has always been a popular place to live, not least because of its village feel and convenient location, close to such a big city like Liverpool – and Manchester, even – and proximity to the network of north west motorways.
“A lot of people who moved to the area, stayed in the area, perhaps sizing up in the case of families.”
But she adds: “Things are changing more than ever. Families still want to live there and it has a wealth of amenities and schools to make it perfect for them, but a re-birth of the area means West Derby is appealing to more people than ever and making it a superb location for everyone. It’s really up-and-coming.”
Big name supermarkets have made the weekly shop easier with Tesco, Aldi and, even, a new Marks & Spencer Foodhall offering great choice right on the doorstep.
The launch of galleries and new shops at the heart of the village has breathed new life into it, along with a wealth of restaurants from Mexican dining gems to Spanish tapas and Asian eateries. And a collection of trendy but relaxed wine bars offering spirits and cocktails have certainly shaken up the nightlife.
There is a village craft and country fair held on the last Saturday of every month providing a regular event and place for people to meet and gather – and it’s that as much as anything else than has re-energised the area, continues Rosamond.
“Although West Derby was a well-established area there is a real villagey vibe there now and buyers are increasingly keen to live in a place like this. Even young professionals who once wanted to be in the heart of the city, where their work was or where the nightlife was, are moving towards places like this.
“They still have the city close by for work and going out but people nowadays want that community feel, that friendly feel: they want to live in a place where they have old-fashioned contact with people, where they’re not isolated in their homes. They want to live with and near people who will look out for them, who will keep an eye on their homes if they’re away, who they can enjoy a slower place of life with – and where the children can play outside.
