Redrow goes the distance for charity

Having already stepped forward and sponsored the Summer Solstice Walk, Redrow is urging Merseyside walkers to put their best foot forward and take part in the event to raise money for those affected by cancer.

The four mile ‘hippy chic’ themed walk takes place on Friday, June 21 in aid of R Charity to support facilities for cancer patients at the Royal Liverpool Hospital.

Gold sponsors Redrow have pledged £2,000 towards the cost of staging the event.

Claire Jarvis, sales director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), says: “The Summer Solstice Walk is a great way for people to get involved and support the excellent work of everyone at the Royal. The hospital provides vital services for those with cancer and also funds hundreds of research projects. We were only too happy to help with the fundraising. We’re looking forward to seeing walkers pay homage to the swinging sixties as they make their way along Liverpool’s historic waterfront.”

The walk will finish at Otterspool Promenade, a short journey away from Redrow’s Cressington Heath development of three and four-bedroom homes.

Organisers hope to raise more than £15,000 and are asking participants to raise a minimum of £30 each in sponsorship. The money will be used to refurbish specialist cancer wards and treatment areas in both the current and the future Royal hospital.

Walkers are encouraged to dress for the occasion with prizes awarded for the best three costumes.

Angela McShane, community and events fundraiser at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, said: “We’re extremely grateful to Redrow for their support as it’s only thanks to the generosity of our corporate sponsors that we’re able to donate all money raised by walkers to the charity. We’re urging walkers of all ages to embrace the hippy vibe and join us for the Summer Solstice Walk. It’s a groovy way to show your support for those affected by cancer.”

The Summer Solstice Walk takes place on Friday, June 21. Registration is £10 for adults and free for under 16s. Register now at www.radiocity.co.uk/Royal.
