If you’re harbouring thoughts of investing in a holiday home, Redrow’s Hayeswater apartments in Fleetwood could be the perfect place in which to weigh anchor.
The apartments are set in the heart of a very special seaside development at the tip of the Fylde peninsular, giving access to stunning views and an abundance of fresh ocean air!
There are one and two-bedroom apartments from £89,995, each offering style and space and an idyllic home-from-home for when owners want to relax and recharge their batteries.
“But unlike some holiday homes, they can be used all year round,” says Claire Jarvis, sales director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), “so you can visit them any time you choose.
“And compared with other types of holiday home, they offer an excellent investment opportunity that will hopefully gain in value the longer you own it. While many people might consider buying a static caravan for holidays, they may not present the best option for a variety of reasons.”
Many holiday parks in Lancashire, for instance, are not open all year round. While the length of season for holiday home owners varies depending on park and pitch, there are often several weeks in a year when the holiday home cannot be used. The National Association of Caravan Owners confirms that, while there is a growing trend for year-round occupancy, it depends on the local authority and many parks are open for only eight to 10 months of the year.
And, while care and regular maintenance can prolong the life of a caravan to last an owner’s lifetime, like a car, it loses value from the moment you open the door. The website MyHolidayCaravan.co.uk admits: “As a caravan gets older, it depreciates in value. As soon as you open the door of your shiny new static caravan you can start knocking pounds and pence off its original value.
“Unfortunately, trying to prevent this is as futile as holding back the tide. It will happen no matter what you do. The average depreciation rate of a static caravan is similar to that of a car – this works out at about 15% per year.”
Investing in bricks and mortar, therefore, might be the better option.
“A beautifully crafted and expertly-built modern Redrow home can obviously seem like the better solution, especially when it’s in somewhere like Fleetwood, a seaside town filled with history and close to all the attractions of Blackpool too,” Claire adds
Fleetwood itself offers plenty for the holiday home owner, from its wonderful promenade to the Grade II listed Memorial Park, one of only four listed war memorial parks and gardens in the UK, with beautiful pond and picnic areas, play facilities and, for the more sporty, tennis courts and traditional bowling greens.
But there are many more places to see and go to, as well as a variety of bars and restaurants and shopping opportunities, which range from The Freeport Outlet Village with some of the biggest retail names to the town’s market, which takes place three times a week.
