A bowling club in Hartford is celebrating hitting the ‘jack’ after securing new funding from housebuilder Redrow.
The popular community club, located on Chester Road, Hartford, attracts about 80 people which make up six teams: a ladies’ team, a men’s team and five mixed teams.
Redrow has donated £500 to the club as part of the Hartford community initiative that the housebuilder set up earlier in the year. The bowls club is just one of the many local clubs and groups that will be benefitting from the scheme.
Captain of two teams and club secretary Gill Symmons said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Redrow for the donation as it means we can transform our hut’s wooden flooring into something non-slip and we can also complete some general maintenance around the green.
“We are always keen to welcome in new players, especially younger players. We have a few already as our age range spans from about 20 up to people in their 80s but we’d love to see some more Hartford youngsters come along and play, those that do, really enjoy it.”
The increase in homes in the area will hopefully generate new members as they are just a stone’s throw from the club. Redrow is building a wide range of homes at three developments in and around the village: Hartford Grange, Weaver Park and Hunter’s Chase.
Jason Newton, sales director for Redrow Homes (NW), said: “Redrow loves to get involved in the communities in which it builds and we have been particularly active in Hartford, inviting local groups to apply for Redrow funding earlier in the year. We were only too happy to help the bowls club out as it makes perfect sense to us to contribute to a club that is so well known in Hartford and caters for so many locals.”
