Hospice garden plans blossom

Housebuilder Redrow is digging deep to help Derian House Children’s Hospice with its budding plans for a new garden.

Landscape designers will work with young people to develop the look of the garden of the Chorley hospice. Funding for the groundwork has been allocated and green fingered volunteers will do the actual gardening.

A £5,000 donation from the Redrow Foundation will be used to furnish the garden.

Andrea Cail, general manager of Derian House, explains: “The garden is being developed as part of our long term plan to refurbish areas of the hospice. Outdoor spaces are hugely important to the children, young people and families using the hospice and the generous donation from the Redrow Foundation will help us develop the garden. We plan to use the grant to commission and purchase seating for the garden.”

Derian House is currently supporting more than 200 families with a child with a terminal or life-threatening illness. A further 200 families are receiving bereavement support from the hospice team.

Located in Chancery Road, Chorley, Derian House is just a short journey away from Buckshaw Village, where Redrow has current developments – Sandy Lane and the Village Green – and where its divisional headquarters is based.

Steve Greenhalgh, land director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), commented: “Many of those who work for Redrow in Chorley are parents and we all recognise that Derian House is such an important charity for the local community. It needs a constant supply of funds to continue its vital work and we’re delighted to be able to support the hospice by providing a grant towards its garden project. The donation will help provide a pleasant and comforting environment for people who are experiencing very difficult circumstances.”

The Redrow Foundation is a national charity founded by housebuilder Redrow Homes, which builds new homes across England and Wales. It provides financial support for the relief of poverty and sickness in the UK and, in particular, to provide accommodation and related assistance, including respite care, especially to children, the elderly and those who are sick or infirm.  To date it has contributed almost £400,000 to a wide variety of good causes.
