It might not have been the best time to move, just five weeks after the birth of their second son. But for Amanda Smith and partner Daniel Shaw it was perfect.
For the couple and their two young children, Ralph, two, and new addition Theo, 12 weeks, are settling nicely into their new home in Ledsham Garden Village
“We are really looking forward to 2017 in our lovely new home, it’s amazing,” says teaching assistant Amanda, 28. “We couldn’t wait to get in, we were the first people to buy on the development.
Amanda and draughtsman Daniel, 34, sold their old two-bedroom terrace nearby in December 2015 and moved out the following January. The couple had set their heart on a Redrow property but when Amanda became pregnant with Theo, the hunt for a new family home became even more urgent.
“When we moved out of our old house we went to live with my mum and dad in a three-bedroom bungalow, which was lovely and we were very grateful, but we were desperate to get a home of our own,” says Amanda.
“We knew about Redrow and that was our initial plan, but when I became pregnant and we needed a new house sooner, we arranged to buy another property, which was about four years old. That fell through and, having started to get emails through from Redrow about Ledsham Garden Village, that became a hope again. We visited the show homes in Liverpool and Chester and that was it.
“We love Little Sutton and we had always wanted to move here because it is such a lovely area. My mum is only five minutes away, Daniel’s is literally across the road, I work in the school around the corner and Daniel’s work is only 10 minutes away!”
And by taking advantage of Help to Buy, the government backed incentive which enables buyers to put down just a 5% deposit and provides them with an equity loan of up to 20% of the cost, interest free for five years, they were able to buy a bigger house than they’d first thought possible.
“We bought an Oxford four-bedroom detached property in the Oaklands development which is just amazing and suits our style of living,” adds Amanda. “My partner loves cooking and the kitchen is a great size - there’s a dining and sitting area that we can get a couch in and, really, live in the area.
“I always wanted a utility room and I have finally got one, and there is a spare bedroom which we hope to use as a play room. There is so much space that we will never have to move again. We chose this plot because it was ready but it is in a wonderful place with a south facing garden. It ticks every box and the sales staff, Pauline and Sam, as well as the site manager Ian, couldn’t have been more helpful.”
Ledsham Garden Village in Little Sutton is one of Redrow’s newest flagship developments, with two neighbouring housing collections, Oaklands and Sycamore Green, separated by a central boulevard.
The impressive new development, set to cover 105 hectares to the north of Ledsham Road, will eventually become a sustainable new community of up to 2,000 homes.
Jason Newton, sales director for Redrow Homes (NW), says: “There has already been huge demand and interest in Ledsham Garden Village and its Heritage Collection homes, from local people like Amanda and Daniel who want to be part of the new community.
“And why wouldn’t they? Of course, we are confident in our beautiful, brand new quality homes that will appeal to all types of buyer, but the fact that the village is set among an abundance of green spaces and with the convenience of a strong transport network to both Liverpool and Chester, makes it a perfect choice.”
Jason adds: “It is really good to see people moving in and we wish Amanda, Daniel, Ralph and Theo a wonderful family life here.”
