Redrow brightens up Flintshire children's safe walk to school

Flintshire children can enjoy a safer walk to school after a glowing donation from local housebuilder Redrow.

Ysgol Owen Jones, in Northop, and St John the Baptist Primary School and Stepping Stones Nursery, both in Penymyndd, have benefited from a donation of 168 high-visibility vests from the developer.

Road safety has made headlines in recent weeks after a number of near misses on popular school routes within Penymyndd. The incidents prompted a group of parents to call for improved road safety measures in the local area.

It is hoped that the high-vis vests, which fit over winter coats, will be able to draw further attention to the children as they make their way to and from school.

Jamie Tennant, headmaster at Ysgol Owen Jones, said: “We have always wanted to get more children walking to school and when Redrow called we couldn’t believe our luck.

“These vests will hopefully give parents some added confidence about their child’s journey to school each morning and I am sure they will be very useful for our many school-trips too. Redrow have already agreed to sponsor our school football team and this latest donation forms part of the growing relationship between the school and the housebuilder.”

Anita Williams, sales director for Redrow Homes (NW), said: “Parents should feel confident about their children’s safety on the journey to school each morning and we really hope this donation of high-visibility vests can help.

“Redrow has a number of developments in Flintshire, including Heritage Park, on Mold Road, in Penymyndd, and we have a passionate commitment to improving the communities in which we build. We have a superb relationship with a number of schools in Flintshire and long may our friendships continue”.
