Pen-y-ffordd Tennis Club nets support from Redrow Homes

Redrow served up sponsorship with a cheque for £500 to help the popular Pen-y-ffordd Tennis Club with the refurbishment of its club house floor.

The club has been in desperate need of funds for the floor, which is still the rough surface from when the club house was built years ago.

The  sponsorship will not only benefit present members of the club, as anybody who buys a home at Redrow’s nearby Heritage Park development, in Penymynydd, over the next year will receive a 20% discount off membership.

Nigel Edwards, secretary of Pen-y-ffordd tennis club, said: “We are so pleased with our association with Redrow and everyone at the club is very grateful for the generous donation of £500. For many years we have needed to put a new floor down in the club house as the rough floor is completely unsuitable. However we have never had the funds available as it needs to be levelled first, which is very costly.

“Now we have a sizeable chunk of the funds we need and will hopefully be able to finally get a brand new floor for the club house very soon, which all of our members will be pleased about. And even better, we will have the pleasure of welcoming any new residents who buy a house at Heritage Park into the Pen-y-ffordd tennis club thanks to their special discount.”

Pen-y-ffordd Tennis Club has a longstanding history and celebrated its centenary in 2008. The original club house was opened in 1954 and its replacement was built in 2006, offering members a toilet, hand-wash basin, storage space and a small kitchen area. The club has three outdoor all-weather tennis courts available for unlimited use by its members. This year, the club has entered teams into two competitive events, the ‘men’s North Wales midweek league’ and the ‘mixed North Wales shield’.

Anita Williams, sales director for Redrow Homes (NW), said: “It is clear to see just how popular the Pen-y-ffordd tennis club is with local residents. Having recently launched our new development in nearby Penymynydd we’re aware of how important it is to support the local communities in which we build. Facilities like the tennis club are enjoyed by very many people and we were happy to be able to help.”

As well as the two, three and four-bedroom new homes at Heritage Park, in Penymynydd, Redrow is also building at Heathlands, off Church Road in Buckley.
