Top apprentice Peter carves out success at Redrow

A trainee carpenter based in Cadishead has won the coveted title of Redrow’s apprentice of the year.

First year apprentice Peter Wright, 19, from Northwich, scooped the national award after impressing his employers while working towards NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry and Joinery.

Based at Redrow’s Hayes Green development, Peter is relishing gaining on the job experience, and combines this with classroom-based learning at Reaseheath College, in Nantwich.

He said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first year working with Redrow. It was a surprise to receive the award but I’m really pleased. I’ve gained so much experience already and learnt many new skills so I’m looking forward to increasing my knowledge even further next year.”

Redrow is committed to training youngsters in a variety of trades, and offers apprenticeships in bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, as well as plumbing; combining on site experience and college based training to secure industry-recognised NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualifications. Currently 70 apprentices are learning a trade with Redrow and the company is in the process of recruiting a further 20 new apprentices who are due to start in August. Ten office administration apprentices are also being recruited as part of a new bespoke training programme.

Richard Beadsmoore, group training & development manager for Redrow said: “All of our apprentices gain the knowledge, skills and experience they need to fulfil a career in housebuilding and construction. We recognise how important it is to invest in young people to ensure a bright future for the industry.

“I’d like to congratulate Peter on his award. It’s very well-deserved after only his first year with Redrow. He is already an asset to the company and we hope that he enjoys a long and successful career with us.”

Redrow’s apprentice recruitment window for 2012 closes soon, however further information is available at www.redrowplc.co.uk, where interested parties can register their interest in future apprenticeship opportunities. Redrow also offers graduate training schemes and under-graduate work placements.
