Building a future for youth in North Manchester

Young people in North Manchester will be able to enjoy a wealth of activities thanks to a major funding boost from house builder Redrow’s national charity.

The Factory Youth Zone in Rochdale Road, Harpurhey, has been awarded £25,000 a year for three years by The Redrow Foundation.

The youth facility opened in February to provide a range of sporting, recreational and entertainment opportunities for local young people.

Development manager Clare Griffiths explained: “Our aim is to provide the widest possible range of exciting, positive activities and opportunities for anyone aged eight to 21. Our focus is engaging with those who are vulnerable, disadvantaged or otherwise hard to reach and the support from the Redrow Foundation will enable us to do just that. We’re extremely grateful for the Foundation’s generous support.”

Facilities at the Factory Youth Zone include a sports hall, climbing wall, dance studio, media room, cafe and chill out area, cinema space, fitness suite, arts and crafts area, changing facilities and showers plus an external five-a-side football pitch.

Keith Collard, construction director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), who are currently regenerating several sites in the Moston and Harpurhey areas to create 450 new homes, commented: “Our business is building new homes and creating communities. We also like to get involved in existing communities in the areas where we build.. The Factory Youth Zone is a fantastic resource for the young people of North Manchester and we’re delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause.”

The Redrow Foundation is the national charity of housebuilder Redrow Homes, which builds new homes across England and Wales. It provides financial support for the relief of poverty and sickness in the UK and, in particular, to provide accommodation and related assistance, including respite care, especially to children, the elderly and those who are sick or infirm. To date it has contributed almost £400,000 to a wide variety of good causes.
