Clock restoration turns back time

Don't forget the clocks go back at 2am on Sunday for the end of British summertime.

Here’s a timely reminder in the shape of the refurbished clock tower at Redrow Homes’ Southbank development in Newton Kyme.

The clock tower originally formed part of the Papyrus Works paper mill, on the edge of Boston Spa, whose site Redrow is redeveloping to create around 130 new homes.

The tower and its magnificent timepiece have been lovingly restored with the help of specialist company Smith of Derby, whose employees include someone who previously looked after the clock.

The mill operated from 1936 and was finally closed in 2003. Redrow is now transforming the redundant site with a mix of its Arts & Crafts inspired Heritage Collection family homes and its Georgian inspired Regent Collection, both of which have timeless appeal thanks to the combination of traditional exteriors and modern interiors.

Warren Thompson, managing director, Redrow Homes (Yorkshire) said: “The clock tower is a wonderful reminder of the site’s history. We’ve carefully restored it and it stands proudly at the entrance to our Southbank development, forming part of an area of landscaped open space which enhances the homes. We’re also creating a footpath and cycle way along the River Wharfe to Boston Spa.”

With the clocks going back this weekend, why not spend that extra hour gained checking out Redrow’s new homes at St Andrews Place or The Rectory at Southbank. Current prices are from £299,950. Call 01937 918086 or visit www.redrow.co.uk/southbank.
