Commuting from Barton won't take its toll on your finances

MAJOR savings in the cost of living are driving people across the Humber Bridge to Barton.

Homebuyers have woken up to the advantages of moving south of the river crossing following a reduction in the bridge tolls last year. They’ve discovered that they could save tens of thousands of pounds off the cost of a home at Fox’s Fold compared with somewhere in Brough or Beverley, which will more than offset the cost of commuting to work in Hull or the surrounding area.

Patsy Aicken, sales director for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), commented: “Location is a key factor to consider when choosing a new home – people want to live somewhere that’s easily accessible and until the bridge toll was reduced to £1.50 last April we’d found that people were reluctant to move to Barton because of the transport costs.

“The lower charges amount to an annual saving of £720 for the average commuter, but there are much bigger savings to be had in terms of the amount of deposit required and monthly mortgage repayments, which could make a massive difference to your standard of living.”

According to the average asking price for a three-bedroom property in Brough is £254,167, compared with £124,950 for a similar sized home at Fox’s Fold.

“The difference in price could pay for more than 86,000 trips across the bridge at the current rate,” Patsy added.

“Moving from an older property to a brand new home at Fox’s Fold could also bring further savings thanks to a host of energy efficient measures including double glazing and central heating which should help reduce utility bills.”

Homes at Fox’s Fold are designed and built with pride to meet the demands of modern living. Kitchens are well equipped with integrated top brand name appliances; while bathrooms and en-suites enjoy quality fixtures and fittings.

Located in Tofts Road, Fox’s Fold is close to some beautiful countryside and in a friendly market town, which boasts a traditional high street full of locally owned shops.  There are three primary schools within one mile of Fox’s Fold and places to explore in the town include Baysgarth House Museum, the historic Anglo-Saxon St Peter’s Church, the Ropewalk Contemporary Art & Craft Centre and the Waters’ Edge Visitor Centre with its 86-acre country park.
