School children in Ashbourne were delighted to receive a nature-friendly gift from Redrow.
Redrow Homes East Midlands’ Henmore Gardens development, on Wyaston Road, donated a hedgehog home to Ashbourne Hilltop Primary and Nursery School, which has been placed in the school’s garden to provide a safe haven for creatures to rest, hibernate or raise their young.
We have pledged to make our homes and gardens hedgehog-friendly, to protect the species and encourage other wildlife to the area.
Martyn Pask, Regional Director at Redrow Homes East Midlands, said: “The hedgehog is one of Britain’s best-loved animals, but there are sadly said to be fewer than one million left.
“Part of our commitment at Redrow Homes is to contribute to thriving communities, and to help provide a better way to live, and so we’re raising awareness about the plight of the hedgehog among children. I’m glad that I was able to donate the hog home as I got to see the children’s excitement when we found the perfect place for it.”
Hazel Jaques, Headteacher at Ashbourne Hilltop Primary and Nursery School, said: “We were delighted to receive the hedgehog home - it was welcomed with much enthusiasm by the children, who will no doubt be on the lookout for any new visitors!
“We passionately believe that we should look after our environment and we’d like to thank Redrow for its kind donation, and showing the children how to care for hedgehogs.”
Henmore Gardens is a sought-after development of three and four-bedroom homes which is located on the doorstep of the Peak District, in Ashbourne. According to a recent study, the historic market town is the best place in Britain to raise a family, and Derby, Burton, Stoke, Nottingham, and Stafford are all within easy reach.
