Housing developer helps Castle Donington schoolchildren 'give a hog a home'
Schoolchildren in Castle Donington were delighted to receive a nature-friendly gift from a local housing developer.
Redrow Homes East Midlands’ Foxbridge Manor development, on Park Lane, donated a hedgehog home to Orchard Community Primary School, which has been placed in the garden area to provide a safe haven for creatures to rest, hibernate or raise their young.
Redrow Homes East Midlands has pledged to make its homes and gardens hedgehog-friendly, to protect the species and encourage other wildlife to the area.
Alex Kenny, Technical Director at Redrow Homes East Midlands, said: “The hedgehog is one of Britain’s best-loved animals, and there are sadly said to be fewer than one million left.
“Part of our commitment at Redrow is to contribute to thriving communities, and to help provide a better way to live, so we’re raising awareness about the plight of the hedgehog among children. I’m glad that I was able to donate the hog home myself as I got to see the children’s excitement when we found the perfect place for it.”
Fiona Shields, Head Teacher at Orchard Community Primary School, said: “We were delighted to receive the hedgehog home - it was welcomed with great enthusiasm by the children, who will no doubt be on the lookout for any new visitors!
“We passionately believe that we should look after our environment so we’d like to thank Redrow Homes East Midlands for its kind donation and for showing the children how to help care for hedgehogs.”
Foxbridge Manor in Castle Donington is the ninth development in the region for Redrow Homes East Midlands, and will open its doors to locals at its sales centre launch on 8 June 2019.
