Redrow announces seven new apprenticeships for East Midlands students

3rd February 2022
Redrow - News - East Midlands - Luke Trigger Apprenticeship

In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week, we’ve announced that seven new apprenticeships are available to students in the East Midlands.

Those successful in securing a place on our East Midlands division’s apprenticeship scheme will work across the region, including at The Nook, a major new development in Nottingham, and Chantry Mews in Leicester.

The tailored apprenticeships will allow students with a passion for construction to build their vocational skills and will focus on different aspects of house building, including bricklaying and carpentry.

The intake follows the success of our ongoing apprenticeship scheme, which has been running since 2017. The scheme, which saw the East Midland’s division take on 10 apprentices in 2021, gives students in the local area an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build a career in housebuilding.

Among the our success stories is 22-year-old Luke Trigger, from Derby, who is currently in the final year of his electrician apprenticeship working across developments in the East Midlands. Luke was named best apprentice in the East Midlands in 2019 for his willingness to go above and beyond, supporting his colleagues and learning new skills quickly.

Luke said: “After leaving college, I came to a crossroads in terms of deciding a career path. My grandad encouraged me to go into the property industry and look into doing an apprenticeship. I was living with him at the time, so that might be because he wanted an electrician to fix the lights for him, but it turned out that the main reason was because apprenticeships often lead to great, stable professions.

“I looked into several different options when leaving college and discovered that Redrow was recruiting in the East Midlands, close to where I live. I knew this was a great company, and after applying, I was thrilled to be offered the apprenticeship.

“I have learned a lot in the past four years. Redrow has given me all the tools I need to pursue a career in the property sector, and the team has even supported me to spend some time at Redrow’s developments in London to widen my experience. This will give me the skills to work across a variety of different house types and developments in the future.

“I’d encourage anyone to consider an apprenticeship as a route into work. The key to being a good apprentice is to act like a sponge – absorb as much knowledge as you can.”

Martyn Pask, Managing Director for East Midlands, added: “We’re delighted to announce we have positions for seven students to join our team.

“Each year, as part of our continued commitment to valuing people, we provide opportunities for young people in the area to kickstart a career in housebuilding. Apprenticeships allow motivated students to learn on the job, gain real world experience and also continue their education.

"After completing their apprenticeships, a high percentage of our apprentices continue to work for Redrow and become specialists in their profession. It's wonderful to have witnessed so many success stories already, including Luke, who never ceases to amaze us with his hard work and willingness to learn. I'd advise any school leavers searching for a rewarding career to apply to our programme - we're so excited to welcome our next batch of Redrow apprentices in September to begin their career with us.”

Applications for our apprenticeship scheme are now open. Students can apply by visiting apply.redrowcareers.co.uk/vacancies
