Colindale Gardens awarded Multi Storey Development of the Year at The Bricks 2017 Awards
On 19th October 2017, Redrow North London’s Colindale Gardens development received the accolade of Multi Storey Development of the Year at The Bricks 2017 Awards in a prestigious ceremony held at The Shard, London.
The awards celebrate the best in housebuilding, and are considered ‘The Oscars’ of the construction industry. They recognise companies and individuals who stand out and go the extra mile, regardless of size, to deliver quality in construction. The judges praised Redrow for demonstrating not just the highest build quality but excellent place making skills in this inner city parkland centred scheme.
Colindale Gardens is major new £1bn development in Colindale, Barnet, set to comprise of 2,900 homes, nine acres of public green space alongside a shopping plaza and school. The development is expected to see construction continue for the next 12 years, providing much needed homes for London’s families, first time buyers and young professionals.
Spanning 47 acres, Colindale Gardens is a regeneration scheme that will transform the disused 1960s tower blocks and adjacent land which was once known as the Peel Centre, a former Metropolitan Police training college, into a vibrant new community.
As well as the new homes, a new primary school is proposed with places for 600 pupils and will benefit from sports fields and open space. The scheme will also connect existing neighbourhoods in the area, greatly contributing to place making with a network of streets, paths and attractive rural spaces. 100,000 sq. ft. of retail and commercial space is also proposed, allowing residents and locals alike to shop, eat, work and relax at Colindale Gardens.
This year saw the launch of the Orchard Quarter at Colindale Gardens, following the success of The Park Collection. Earlier this year, Redrow’s Colindale Gardens announced their partnership with leading residential developer L&Q who have acquired two apartment blocks at Colindale Gardens comprising 209 homes. One of which being a 14 storey tower with extensive views over North West London and are surrounded by social able green space for the whole community.
These homes will be available exclusively for the private rental sector and form part of L&Q’s plans to develop 5,000 rental homes over the next 5 years, creating the UK’s largest selection of purpose built and newly refurbished rental properties. This partnership is an example of Colindale Garden’s harmony with current housing guidelines for London, calling for an increase of mixed tenure developments.
Mark Parker, Managing Director for Redrow North London, commented: “We are delighted to receive this award. Colindale Gardens offers homes for everyone with a variety of tenures providing high quality new homes, which are not only affordable for buyers keen to get on the housing ladder, but for those who are not yet in a position to purchase a home and still want to live in a thriving community with easy access to central London.”
