Students at Colindale Primary School swap textbooks for hard hats and visit Redrow's Colindale Gardens site
Year 1 students from Colindale Primary School swapped the classroom for a construction site for a day to visit Redrow’s latest London flagship scheme, Colindale Gardens.
Ninety pupils visited the site to learn more about ‘building and their materials’, which teaches the pupils the difference between man-made and natural materials and how the properties of a material make them ideal for different uses.
Upon arriving at the Marketing Suite, the children were shown the model of what the site should look like once complete and were told about how the land close to their school will be transforming to provide new homes for people to live in, as well as shops, cafes and even a new school.
Next, the students were given hard hats and were taken on to the roof of the marketing suite where they could look out over the site. Here they were given a sheet with pictures of construction equipment which they could match up to the real equipment that they could see on site and were treated to a show from the digger on site. Finally, the children were visited by a construction worker who spoke to them about what his job involves and gave them the opportunity to ask him questions about what he does day to day.
Simon Halfhide, Sales Director at Redrow London comments: “Colindale is currently undergoing a massive transformation and within a couple of years it will be totally regenerated, so it is brilliant to be able to educate local children about what is going on around them. It is vital that our ‘builders of the future’ learn more about construction and the types of jobs that you can do on site. By actually getting the children on to the site we can take their learning to the next level. “
“We would like to thank the children and teachers at Colindale Primary School for coming along to the site, and look forward to building on our relationship with the school in the future, along with the rest of the Colindale community.”
Once complete, our £1 billion regeneration scheme will span 47 acres and will comprise over 2,900 new homes, along with commercial space and a three form entry primary school. Nearly 20% of the scheme will be allocated to open green space, with fruit orchards, parkland and communal gardens creating an attractive green environment for residents and the surrounding community to enjoy.
The latest phase to launch at Colindale Gardens is the Family Quarter which includes an inviting mix of large three and four-bedroom houses plus stylish and spacious one, two and three-bedroom apartments.
